RT Journal Article SR Electronic A1 Goldsmith, Ben T1 If You Build It- Film Studios and the Transformative Effects of Migrating Media Productions JF Iluminace YR 2010 VO 22 IS 2 SP 27 OP 46 UL https://iluminace.cz/en/artkey/ilu-201002-0003.php AB The author maps the current developments in the globalization of film production. The much-discussed migration of runaway productions, film projects fleeing for cheaper services, locations, labour and financial incentives, varies to a large extent according to the opportunities offered by studios anywhere in the world. The meaning of the word studio here means both a physical location, a studio hall with an adjacent outdoor lot, and a flagship in a complex network of local infrastructure, which, in addition to studios, usually (e.g. also in the case of Prague) includes attractive accessible locations, a non-unionised, cheap and flexible workforce, transparently functioning production service providers, a system of financial incentives or tax breaks, and wider facilities, including a secure legal framework and tourist attractions. The contribution of Goldmisth's article lies in the categorization of migrant project destinations.
