The paper seeks to show how the employment of female script supervisors differs in studio and project production systems, what are the distinguishing traits of this work, and how gender distinctions are constructed in the film and television industry. In addition to the historical and theoretical context, the paper reports on the methodology, sampling, data collection, how the respondents came to work in film and television, as well as how they obtained other employment opportunities, the workload of the script supervisor and the construction of gender roles. The present situation is compared with that before 1991, when production in state-owned studios was on a project-based system and former employees became freelancers.
