Horizons and Ruins. Visible and Invisible in the Early Modern Visual Culture
A detailed description of a dissertation dealing with one specific pictorial motif from the early 19th century that represents and problematizes the question of early modern visual culture. The analysis of the pictorial material is represented by a group of works by Caspar David Friedrich using the method of iconography or iconology. Some traditional literary motifs are also followed (e.g. the motif of the ruin and the horizon).
