Czech Film Distribution 2007-2016. A Decade of Change
- Akademie múzických umění
The study details the development of film distribution during the ten years marked by the shift from analogue to digital technology of projection. It extends a previous study by the author that described the period 1987-2006, covering the disintegration of state-owned film industry and its transformation to standard film distribution.
The first part of the presented study describes the development of various means of dissemination of audiovisual contents with the aim to put classical distribution in the context of other forms of distribution and emphasize that in the course of history its role in the structure of the whole system of dissemination of audiovisual contents has been transformed. The second aim of this chapter is to demonstrate that classical film distribution was forced to digitization by changes in film production, postproduction and other means of dissemination of audiovisual contents. Last but not least, the study shows that while in the past the competition for spectators occurred between classical film distribution and, e.g. television broadcasting, today the main competition occurs between classical liner television broadcasting and online distribution of audiovisual contents.
