The National Film Archive is a contributory organization of the Czech Ministry of Culture. It is an archive of special significance with its activities primarily focused on the collection, protection, scholarly processing and use of audiovisual and written archival documents, in particular those that form the national cultural heritage and document the birth and development of cinema. The National Film Archive provides versatile services to archival collections, in particular by processing and preserving audiovisual and written materials.
The collections of the National Film Archive consist of audiovisual works made in the Czech Republic and selectively also of foreign-made audiovisual works in compliance with the regulations of The International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), of written archival documents, as well as collections of contemporary documentation related to the production and distribution of audiovisual works.
It also organizes film festivals and other film-related events in connection with the propagation of Czech film culture. It cooperates with international film festivals, public as well as commercial television channels, specialized educational institutions, etc. Publishing activities and the operation of the PONREPO cinema, specialized in archival and artistically significant films, are also essential.
