The opening chapter of a sociological study of the Hollywood film environment, the film industry and the Hollywood way of life. Discusses issues of values and practical life, as well as information on the personality profiles of producers, directors, writers and actors. The analysis is based on the evaluation of data from 12,000 questionnaires, processed over 3 years. The respondents were 4200 film workers, filmmakers and artists. The data cover the years 1937-1940.

An excerpt from a study that examines the American film industry's efforts to dominate European national cinemas in the 1920s and 1930s, concerns about the suppression of indigenous national cultures, issues of morality and cultural identity, and offers a context in which to situate the problems of the struggle between cinematic America and Europe. The second part of the study focuses on the transition to sound and explores the specific problems posed by synchronized dialogue and spoken language at the time.

The study examines the release and reception of foreign films on the Czechoslovak market during the early sound cinema era, with an emphasis on the so-called "German versions" of mostly American films, and uses the example of German and American productions to show their relative popularity with respect to their cultural attributes. The German versions, shown in Prague cinemas between 1929 and 1934, were seen as a threat to the dominance of the Czech language in the public sphere and in future Czechoslovak cinema.

The study deals with the issues of the understanding of sport, physical education, health science and personal hygiene in Czech culture after 1920.
